Neil Young to headline Big Day Out 2009
Canadian rocker Neil Young will headline the 2009 Big Day Out music festival, and will play side shows in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
Festival organisers have confirmed that Young, 62, will play the annual event, which travels to the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Auckland, New Zealand, in January and February.
On his first Australian tour since 2003, Young has also announced dates for Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne in January which go on sale on September 19.
Big Day Out organisers were unwilling to confirm rumours that the Arctic Monkeys and the Ting Tings would also be on the bill.
The first line-up announcement for the popular festival is expected within the next month.
In past years major international acts such as Nirvana, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, Beastie Boys and Metallica have rocked the Big Day Out, along with local acts such Silverchair, Powderfinger, You Am I, The Living End and Grinspoon.

* January 28 - Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne
