Madonna dedicates 'Like a Virgin' to Pope

Madonna dedicates 'Like a Virgin' to Pope

Italian news reports say pop star Madonna dedicated 'Like a Virgin' to Pope Benedict XVI when she sang the classic hit during a Rome concert.

Madonna made the dedication just a few kilometres from the Vatican as she sang for tens of thousands of fans at the capital's Stadio Olimpico on Saturday night, the only Italian date of her international "Sticky and Sweet" tour.

Italian daily La Repubblica reported on Sunday that Madonna said "I dedicate this song to the Pope, because we are all children of God."

The "Material Girl" has a history of arousing the ire of the Roman Catholic Church. She was criticised by Vatican officials and leaders of other religions for staging a mock crucifixion during her last Rome concert in 2006.

The church is bullshit, faith is real, music is an influence, Madonna is an influence, for anyone who has ever wished to be someone, Madonna has proven that hard work, dedication, and staying true to yourself is the only way to be.

A message to the 11 year old "hello". Stay at school until year 12. You may come across some better female role models than skanky Madonna! Read some books instead of listening to your Ipod with rubbish like "Material Girl" and "Hanky Panky".

“I made it through the wilderness, somehow I made it through. Didn’t know how lost I was until I found you” ….can’t see how the Pope can object to a song about finding yourself through love. The song is not even about sex, you idiots.

Good old fashioned sexism on the loose again. We can't have a female having an opinion can we, and God forbid a woman being sexy over the age of 25. Why do people in 2008 have a problem with a 50 year old woman working and voicing her opinion?

Woh you guys are seriously against Madonna. I think she's a great singer and I'm not going to take religious issues like this into such critisism as to change my view of her. No singer like her and I think that's something to be proud of.

It's not about the silly song it's her lack of respect for a personage well beyond her ken or ranking in the world, that's what's so wrong. It's called priciples and respect!

Obviously at age 50 she still hasn't learned the meaning of respect.

If she can't handle religion - stay out of it.

This is very Poor Taste and a Lousy gesture This self serving artist is over rated if she seeks contoversy at the expense of the community of faith
