Quentin Tarantino is apparently set to return to the movie set with a new epic World War II film.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the writer-director will start production of Inglorious Bastards in October, shooting most of the movie in Europe in time to submit to next year's Cannes Film Festival in May.

Brad Pitt is rumoured to be in the running to play one of the leads in the film, alongside Quentin regulars Tim Roth and Michael Madsen.

Inglorious Bastards follows a group of idle 'Dirty Dozen' type US soldiers who accept a high-risk near suicide mission to go behind enemy lines in Nazi-occupied France in order to avoid facing a firing squad.

The Kill Bill director acquired the title and remake rights to Enzo Castellari's 1978 film of the same name, but his screenplay is said to be an original.
